Missed call text back

Missed call text back for contractors: the 60-second fix for the leads you already paid for.

Every contractor misses calls. On a roof, under a sink, in a crawlspace, on another call. The caller does not leave a voicemail; they dial the next company. Missed call text back sends that caller a text within a minute, keeps the conversation alive, and, done right, qualifies the lead before you call back.

What missed call text back is

Missed call text back is simple: when a call to your business line goes unanswered, the caller automatically receives a text within seconds. "Hi, this is Summit Roofing. Sorry we missed you. Are you calling about a repair or a replacement?" The caller replies, and now there is a conversation instead of a lost call.

The basic version is an auto-responder. The useful version is a conversation: something on your end reads the reply, asks the next question, and keeps going until the lead has confirmed what they need, when they need it, and where they are. That second version is what turns a missed call into a booked appointment while you are still on the roof.

Why the first 60 seconds matter more than the words

A homeowner who calls a contractor and gets voicemail has usually already opened the next listing. If a text arrives while they are still looking at their phone, you are back in the conversation. If it arrives ten minutes later, you are competing with whoever answered.

The spike is where it hurts most. The week after a hail storm, the first 100-degree day, a hard freeze: those are the days your phone rings the most and your team can answer the least. Text back does not get tired and does not get busy.

The standard we run: the first reply lands in under 90 seconds on every BMT funnel, median 47 seconds, whether the lead came from a missed call, a web form or an ad.

Four scripts you can copy today

Each one is short, in your company's name, and ends with a question the caller can answer with one line. No emojis, no "Your call is important to us."

Roofing

"Hi, this is [Company]. Sorry we missed your call. Is this about storm damage, a leak, or a full replacement? Reply here and we will get someone out."

HVAC

"Hi, this is [Company]. Sorry we missed you. Is your system out completely right now, or is this for a repair or tune-up? Reply here and we will get a tech scheduled."

Plumbing

"Hi, this is [Company]. Sorry we missed your call. Is water actively leaking right now? Reply here and tell us what is going on and we will get someone to you."

Electrical

"Hi, this is [Company]. Sorry we missed you. Is this a power problem right now, or a new install like a panel, generator or EV charger? Reply here and we will get you scheduled."

The second message is where most auto-responders stop and where the lead is actually won. Ask whether they own the home, ask for the address, and offer two appointment windows. That is the whole qualification.

What it recovers

Contractors who track it usually find the missed-call share of inbound is larger than they guessed, and the share of missed callers who never call back is larger still. Text back does three things to that number:

  • Keeps the lead warm while you finish the job you are on.
  • Screens out the noise so your callback list is homeowners with a real need, not spam and wrong numbers.
  • Books without a call for the leads who would rather text anyway, which is most of them under 45.

Measure it for one month: missed calls, texts sent, replies, appointments booked from the thread. If the last number is not zero, the system paid for itself.

How BMT does it

BMT's qualifier does not just text back. It answers every inbound lead, missed call or not, and runs the whole conversation: decision-maker, need, timeline, location, in your voice, in English or Spanish, 24 hours a day. The qualified lead lands in your dashboard with the transcript, and a lead that does not confirm within 24 hours is replaced free.

It is one piece of the system. BMT also builds the site and runs the ads that generate the leads in the first place, so the text back is answering leads you own, not leads a marketplace sold to four other companies. Pick your trade to see the full picture: roofers, HVAC, plumbers, electricians.

Questions contractors ask us

Does text back work with my existing business number?

Yes. Calls still ring your phone the way they do now. The text goes out from a number tied to your business, and the thread is yours to read and step into at any point.

Will customers be annoyed by an automatic text?

Not when it is short, in your company's name, and asks a real question. What annoys people is silence. A text that says "sorry we missed you, what is going on?" is what a good office manager would send by hand if she had the time.

What about callers who do not want to text?

They call back, or they answer the text with "call me," and the thread flags them for a call. Nobody is forced into a conversation they do not want.

Is this compliant with texting rules?

A reply to someone who just called your business is a response to their own inquiry. BMT still registers every business line under carrier A2P rules and honors STOP on every thread.

Is there a contract or a per-lead fee?

No. BMT charges a flat monthly retainer. Ad spend, when you run ads through us, is separate and in addition, and you see it line by line. There are no per-lead fees and no minimums.

Are the leads exclusive?

Yes. A lead that comes through your BMT funnel goes to you and nobody else. We cap client slots per zip code so two BMT clients in the same trade are never competing for the same homeowner.

What if a lead does not respond?

A lead that does not confirm within 24 hours is replaced free. You are paying for conversations, not rows in a spreadsheet.
